Political structure for voting

Matola Municipality comprises two distinct bodies: the municipal assembly, which acts as a legislature; and the municipal council, which holds executive powers.

Municipal Assembly

The Municipal Assembly has 73 members in its current term. Municipal Assembly members are elected through universal, direct, equal, secret, personal and periodic suffrage by the eligible residents of Matola. The current Assembly comprises 45 men and 28 women, reflecting a commitment to gender representation.

Municipal Council

The Municipal Council of Matola comprises 11 members, including the President of the Matola City Municipal Council and 10 councillors appointed by the President in accordance with legal provisions.
