The City Leaders participating in the AMALI programme represent cities that vary in population size, geographical location, political power and economic influence. Some examples of cities in the AMALI programme include capital cities, large cities, and cities that are internationally recognised as having global or regional economic significance.

Cities identified in the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) 2024 classification as economically important cities of global or regional significance
